Survey: Encouraging Results for the Students of Neve Shalom
July 2002

Translated from the "News in brief" section of the Tzur Hadasa and Mateh Yehuda journals, July 2002)
The Oasis of Peace Primary School deals with many problems, which even grew worse during the last two years. Last week the school published the results of tests and examinations that were conducted by the Ministry of Education. According to the Ministry’s criteria, the school gains high marks and evaluations.
The examinations in the school took place during the former school year (2000-2001) through the framework of "Meitzav" – measurements of schools’ efficiency and creativity. These included achievement tests of the students in the 4th-6th grades, in comparison with both the national average and the average of schools in the non-Jewish sector. In addition the tests checked the quality of the learning structures and the degree of satisfaction among the students and the teaching staff.
The results show that in English and in Arabic for the Arabs, the students’ achievements are either high or very high in comparison to the national average. Integrated Computer Studies were graded much higher than the national average. The students learning skills were equal to the national average.
The students of the school said that they have very little problems of discipline and that they have good relations with their teachers. The students graded their level of satisfaction from the school as high.
The results show that the students’ achievements in Mathematics are average and in Sciences the achievements are lower than the national average. The school directors explained this result in the unique character of the school.
The survey shows that life of the teaching staff is not easy. The teachers claimed that their working relations were damaged (these were the first months of the Intifada). They graded their level of satisfaction from their work as lower than the average.
The school directors, Boaz Kita’in and Diana Shalufi-Rizek, said that the experience of tens of students that have graduated from the school shows that most of them were integrated successfully in Junior High frameworks. Schools that accepted Neve Shalom graduates were very pleased with their achievements.
