The School for Peace wins 2003 peace prize of the Deutsch-Israelische Gesellschaft

April 2 2003:  Two School for Peace members, Nava Sonnenschein and Wafaa Zriek Srour, travelled to Berlin to receive the peace prize of the Deutsch-Israelische Gesellschaft (DIG) on behalf of the SFP. 

More than 500 guests from the Federal Republic attended the special event.   Speeches were given by president of the DIG (and former federal minister) Professor Manfred Lahnstein; speaker of the Bundestag (and member of the honorary board of the German Friends of NSh/WAS) Wolfgang Thierse; former vice-president of the DIG Magdalene Krumpholz,  and Israeli deputy ambassador Mordechay Lewi. 

The School for Peace is the second recipient of the prize, which was first awarded two years ago to the Beit HaGefen Arab/Jewish Cultural Centre (Haifa).

The School for Peace was cited for its "employment of communication and equal exchange between Jews and Arabs."   Also noted was the success of the SFP in creating exemplary conflict resolution programs that proved to be applicable locally as well as in other regions of conflict.
