Elections in the community (2021)

On 10 March 2021 the village held elections for the board of the municipal society. The community members thanked the out-going board chaired by Anwar Dawood after their two-year term and voted in a new board chaired by Rita Boulos and six other members: Tom Edlund (representing the educational association board), Reem Haj Yehia, Walid Hasnin, Eldad Joffe, Shireen Najjar and Omer Schwartz. This marks the first time in several years that the municipal board has been chaired by a woman and the first time for a Palestinian woman: excellent timing on this week of International Women’s Day!

For the sake of caution during the pandemic, the community met outside, in the parking lot of the municipal building. After the meeting a number of people messaged congratulations to the new board, which includes several young and first time members, and praised the good spirit in which the evening was conducted. From the Communications and Development Office, we congratulate our colleague, visitors center director Rita Boulos on her new position. (She will take up her new duties alongside her traditional ones.)

The municipal board is responsible for steering the affairs of the community, for which it normally meets on a weekly basis.
