Holocaust Remembrance Day 2014

Monday 28 April 2014, by C&D Office

This year, the ceremony for Yom Ha’Shoa, which was held in Hebrew and Arabic, specifically remembered the courage of many Albanian Muslims who hid Jews from Nazis and provided them with shelter and food.

The children of Wahat al-Salam / Neve Shalom primary school read out three stories about these families who took in Jews and refused to betray them when the Nazis invaded their country. The stories were about particularly courageous individual Albanians, who have been awarded the medal of the righteous among the nations by Yad Vashem. The stories told about “Besa” (Promise) to keep the Jews hidden from the Nazis.
Some of the pupils sang, and others played their instruments, even as soloists, to commemorate this day.
