National Days - May 2016
Thursday 12 May 2016

Holocaust Day, Memorial Day and Nakba Day are solemn national days that are commemorated each year at the Primary School in a spirit of brotherhood and the shared hope for a more peaceful future.
Holocaust Day was marked nationally in Israel on May 5. The Jewish and Palestinian children collected together to commemorate it in the auditorium, and were joined by teachers, some parents, and members of our friends associations. The solemn ceremony included prepared speeches by the children, visuals, singing, music and movements. Some photos are linked below:
The Day of the Memory for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of Terrorism preceded Israel’s Independence Day. The 2-minute siren sounding at 11.00 AM blared from the school building and nearby towns. For the occasion, the Jewish children gathered in the auditorium. Chaim, the music teacher, led them in singing. One child played a flute and the pupils also did short a mimed drama performance.
On the screen there were presentations with pictures and text in Hebrew -
also a photo of Tom Kitain. The children read texts in Hebrew. The ceremony ended with classical emblems of peace. Carmella the school principal says that the ceremony was intended both to honour memories of the past and the hope for peace.
On remembrance of the Palestinian Nakba (May 15) the children were invited by the School for Peace to see a slide show on Palestinian cities prior to 1948.
Poems were read and one of the children of the village told the story of her grandmother, who grew up in Lod and fled temporarily to Jordan.
