Wonderful Purim celebration at the Primary School

On Tuesday March 22 the school community of Neve Shalom - Wahat al Salam came together to celebrate the Jewish festival of Purim in the schoolyard.

The celebration started with a short play by the students: a modern interpretation of the story of Mordechai and Esther by the 5th graders. In the new interpretation, the communication between the actors of the story was done via Facebook and Twitter instead of traditional methods. The story was re-interpreted by the students of the 5th grade under the supervision of their home-teacher Reem.

After the amusing performance, the children presented their costumes one by one, including the group from the kindergarten. The variety among the children’s costumes showed a lot of effort and creativity: Among the favorite characters were Star Wars-actors, Disney’s Elsa or Ninjas, while others chose to dress as Popcorn-Sellers or as Carmella - the school principal.

Later on, the children scattered into different classrooms, where their teacher had prepared various entertaining activities for them. Some of the children continued playing outside in the sun.

The period of the spring recess has now begun, though the dates that the children will be off school differ slightly for the Jewish and Palestinian pupils, in order to accommodate occidental and Orthodox Easter as well as Passover.
