School teachers to visit German school

Tuesday 25 March 2014, by C&D Office

WAS-NS teachers Ms. Raida Aiashe-Khatib, Ms.Reem Nashef and the headmaster Mr. Anwar Dawood will be visiting Düsseldorf, Germany from April 4 for six days to meet with teachers from the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Realschule, to discuss the possibility of a student exchange.

They are thinking to develop a sustainable partnership based around common project work and live meetings. The Freiherr-vom-Stein-Realschule is a public school in the center of Düsseldorf in a disadvantaged area (unemployment, low social class area). The school has a high rate of students with migration background (about 70%) most of them coming from Turkey and Morocco. The age of their students is between 10 and 17 years.

Our teachers will be visiting the Düsseldorf school as well getting to know the city, in order to see what could be incorporated into a student exchange trip. They will also meet to speak about the student exchange, including finance options, and how many students and teachers will participate.

Teachers from the same school also visited WAS-NS recently. After their return to Düsseldorf, they arranged for a generous donation of table tennis equipment to our primary school. They got in contact with a representative of the city and a member of the professional table tennis team Borussia Düsseldorf, who kindly donated a table for table tennis including sixty sets of rackets and balls.

Photos of children with the table-tennis equipment are shown.
