US envoy Hady Amar meets with Samah Salaime

Sunday 16 May 2021

As Eran Singer reported on Twitter in Hebrew, during the framework of his visit, "the American envoy Hady Amar, met with Arab officials in Israeli civil society organizations to understand what was happening in the cities involved and the reasons for the clashes between Jews and Arabs. The contents of the contacts that the American envoy has will be conveyed in a special report to the US State Department." (Additional reportage was on Israel’s ReshetBet radio station.)
In the meeting were also representatives of the Abraham Initiatives and the Mussawa organization.

Samah discussed with him the view from Wahat al-Salam - Neve Shalom and from civil society in Israel, as well as the need for the US to support programs for civil society, such as the The School for Peace Mixed Cities program and its cross-border projects. The previous Trump administration cancelled funding for all ongoing dialogue programs, such as the School for Peace cross-border program for mental health workers and, and declined support for the SFP mixed cities program via the US Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI).

Hady Amar, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Israel and Palestinian Affairs at the Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, has been meeting with Israeli and Palestinian leaders during his visit.
