Arson attack on the village offices

Wednesday 19 January 2022

On the evening of Sunday, January 16 2022, the village was the scene of an arson attack on its main office building. A petrol bomb was thrown into the meeting room on the lower floor by an unknown assailant who arrived and left in a stolen car.

The targeted room was badly damaged. In the rest of the building, ceilings, walls and floors were blackened by smoke and soot. Thanks to the alertness and quick actions of our young people, the flames were doused before they could spread to other rooms. By the time that fire fighters arrived on the scene, the fire had been put out. Fortunately no one was injured.

Fire fighters and police gathered evidence from the scene, including footage from security cameras. The police are still investigating the crime.

We are saddened by yet another incident of this nature. Friends of the village may be reminded of the arson attacks on the village in September 2020. The culprit was never found.

We live in a society that increasingly chooses violence over peaceful solutions. Although it is often nerve-wracking, we see no choice but to increase our vigilance and determination, continue to grow the village, and expand our work for peace.
