"A Local Habitation and a Name"

On Thursday, November 23, 2007, the spiritual center of Wahat al-Salam held an evening in honor of the launch of Amer Dahamshe’s book A Local Habitation and a Name.

The evening was attended by Dr. Daniel Mishori, who addressed the book on aspects of environmental justice, man and the environment and social justice, and the connection between these three topics to Dehamshe’s book. Mishori referred in particular to the aspect of naming specific places such as a cave, a section of a road, a stream or a creek as a unique phenomenon for Palestinian society; Prof. Galit Hazan Rokem, who was the supervisor of Dehamshe in his work on the book, talked about the work method, the collection of material and the attitude of Israeli society through the mirror of literature to Arab society in general and the issue of place names in particular; Dr. Amer Dahamshe was amazed by stories from the Galilee of settlements and sites and the source of their names.
