"Forbidden Marriages in the Holy Land"

September 2002

Michel Khleifi’s film, "Forbidden Marriages in the Holy Land" (1995), deals with various forms of mixed marriage in Israel (particularly between Arabs and Jews), and the difficulties the couples encounter due to religious and cultural traditions.

Khleifi, a Palestinian born in Nazareth and currently living in Belgium visited NSWAS together with film director Eyal Sivan, during the process of their production of a joint film dealing with the subject of the 1947 line of partition.

We took advantage of their visit to show films by these two directors. After the screening, Khleifi led an interesting discussion on the subject of the film.
