Iftar meals at the spiritual center
Monday 4 July 2016

This Ramadan, as in all recent years, the community held a series of weekly potluck Iftar Jamaie meals at the PSCC, i.e. evening communal meals to mark the breaking of the daytime fast.
Good food was served; Muslims, Christian and Jewish community members took part, and one of the themes this year was expressing appreciation and saying thank you to a number of community members. Adnan Manaa, the municipal chair, led these efforts, expressing kind words and presenting bunches of flowers. Samah Ighbarieh, the educational chair person was honored in this way, Elinor Sidi, the new exec. director of the educational associations was welcomed. The PSCC bid farewell to Dafna Karta Schwartz, who had led the PSCC for the last few years. Dafna said some words in parting from her role, and a discussion on the future of the PSCC also took place, under the leadership of Samah. We also said thanks to Dyana Shalufi Rizek for her dedication to the museum and to Yair Auron, for his valuable efforts on the Righteous project. A general thanks was said to Michal Moses, for her spirit of volunteering on behalf of the PSCC and the community. She continued to work in the background, decorating pillars at the PSCC while the meal and speeches took place. We also said bye to Yasmin Al-Kalek, who will be leaving the school this year, in order to serve for the first time as principal at a school in Ramle, and said thanks to Att. Halil Danaf for his voluntary legal counsel to the community.
On the final evening, we heard a short presentation by Prof. Adel Manaa on his new book (in Arabic), Nakba and Survival: The Story of the Palestinians who Remained in Haifa and the Galilee (1948-1956). He narrated some highlights from stories that appear in the book.
We wish everyone a happy and blessed Eid al-Fitr.
