Shabab Exhibition
Tuesday 1 October 2019, by

This was an exhibition of young artists expressing themselves through art with various methods, materials and tools. The exhibition focused on individual life and its dilemmas, on learning, experimentation, continuity and perseverance. The four featured artists, Klil Wexler, Aseel Egbariah, Shani Avivi and Shade Twafra, created a unique environment that fascinated and inspired everyone who came. The exhibition ran from May 20 to July 20. On the final day, a meeting took place with the artists. They spoke about their works and answered questions from the audience of WAS-NS members and accompanying family members, friends and admirers.
This time I chose to focus on an important life period for the individual, which has a critical impact on the future of things—youth.
We all experience life’s joys, in ways that are as diverse as humanity. This exhibition is a joyful exploration of a wide range of art techniques. The artists show their enjoyment of learning, experimenting, continuing, persevering, so that the process of creation is a success in its own right.
The techniques in the exhibition are varied because they belong to different disciplines—plastic art, the use of different materials, painting, etching, printing, illustration and mixed techniques.
What is special here is that I found common ground among artists with different social backgrounds: their topics, personal interests and therapeutic methods are similar despite the differences in artistic presentation and/or use of different techniques.
Although in these exhibitions I don’t favour a particular style, school, stream or era, I usually look for a theme—stories inspired by the artist’s world. I am interested in the artists’ way of thinking and the sequences of ideas they embody in their works, and of course how they understand and perceive any subject of interest. I am drawn to the human, educational, and political dimensions of life.
These practitioners are young artists who are engaged in living their lives. Do their artistic choices affect their personalities and role in life?
Klil Wexler
She shouts "Why!" and ask who decides? Who decides what is publicly revealed or hidden from the public eye and even destroyed? Questions we face in our country and everywhere.
Aseel Egbariah...

She brings us back to ourselves, to our preconceived ideas and opinions, to clarify with ourselves how we make decisions regarding the differences in the way the other looks, or how she believes. Can we accept these differences?
Shade Twafra...

He leaves us with the question of what is peaceful resistance or action? What does it actually mean? Who is permitted to define it? If a group feels that something needs to change and they attempt to bring about this change peacefully, do others have a right to decide that their activity is illegitimate?!
Shani Avivi
“Is the status quo that has existed so far between all religions still stable? Has the security situation in the State of Israel succeeded to undermine the coexistence that has been going on for centuries in the city of Ramle? And what happens to history when it is defined only by destruction?
