On Thursday - November 28, 2019 we gathered at the WASNS Spiritual Center in order to view an episode from the Arabic language TV series You Can’t Ask That. The episode spotlights the families of murdered women.

The series was directed by the film director and producer Ibtisam Mara’ana, who is also a member of the Spiritual Center steering committee. This obviously painful but highly recommended episode can be seen on Youtube.

After the film screening, a discussion was held with three guest speakers. Ibtisam Mara’ana is (as mentioned) the film’s director. Amira Baba, from Lydda, is a lawyer, mother of three, whose sister was murdered, and who participated in the episode. Ora Solomon, the third speaker, lost her sister Sarah Solomon in a murder that took place in 2012. She is currently fighting the early release from prison of the killer. The women told in detail about the murder, about the lives of their sisters, about what happened before and after the murder, and about their struggle against violence towards women women in Israeli society in general and in their immediate societies (Arab society and Ethiopian Jewish society) in particular.

The discussion was facilitated with admirable sensitivity by Tanya Gilboa, Director of Community Relations for the Association of Rape Crisis Centers in Israel (ARCCI).

The evening was filmed in the video but at the request of one of the participants was not published and no film material has been released.
