Although they are presented together here, it should be understood that these projects are quite different in terms of their size and allocated resources, while the Humanitarian aid program is conducted on a voluntary basis as an initiative of WAS-NS members.

The Primary School in 2004-2005

The NSWAS Primary School continues in its efforts to provide a mature comprehensive binational education framework for children of the Village and some 30 communities in the surrounding area.

The Junior High 2004-2005 School Year

September 1 brought a new school year – only the second in the Junior High’s existence. The efforts of staff, parents and students had paid off. The successes of the previous year encouraged many new students to join. Some are graduates of the NSWAS primary school, while others are completely new to the system.
Most of last year’s seventh grade students continued on to eighth grade, where there are 16 students this year (three of them new to the system). Another 25 students enrolled in the (...)

The children’s framework of NSWAS is not immune from the political and financial turmoil affecting our region. So it was no surprise that conducting our traditional “Brotherhood Summer-Camp” (“Kaytanat Ach’va – Muhayam Uchwa”) would bring challenges too. It took a greater effort this year to organize, and to find children to join. Jewish parents, in particular, seemed to prefer other activities for their children this summer.

Helping Children who need medical care
Helping children who need special medical care that cannot be obtained in Palestinian hospitals has become a major part of our work. Children of the school celebrate three holidays

As in recent years, we celebrated a tri-religious event, and this year focussed upon the Jewish holiday of “Shavu’ot”, the Muslim “Mawlad el-Nabi” and the Christian “Pentecost” (“el Ansara” in Arabic). The latter also was combined with a celebration of Ascension Day (“es-Su’ud”). The event took place on a warm and lovely spring evening. January 11: The second of three encounters for the staff and management of the Primary School and pre-school framework of Neve Shalom – Wahat al-Salam took place over the weekend. The two-and-a-half day encounter was conducted at conference facilities in Jerusalem and sponsored by the Arigatou Foundation, Japan.
