Although they are presented together here, it should be understood that these projects are quite different in terms of their size and allocated resources, while the Humanitarian aid program is conducted on a voluntary basis as an initiative of WAS-NS members.

Purim celebration at the Primary School

Everyday during the week from March 13 – 17 the children of the Oasis of Peace Primary School learned about and celebrated the Jewish holiday of Purim – one of the children’s favorite holidays. The Jewish and Arab children learned about the Biblical story of Esther, and especially emphasized the giving of gifts (mishloah manot) and made special dishes for their school lunch. A new school bus for the Primary School

WAS-NS manager Eyas Shbeta and School Principal Anwar Dawood were invited to a ceremony at the transportation department of the Mateh Yehuda Development Company to celebrate the purchase and entry into service of the new 52-seat Mercedes school bus, for which money was raised by associations of friends of Neve Shalom - Wahat al-Salam, the Folke Bernadotte Foundation (Sweden), the DVHL, Mercedes Benz itself and other foundations and friends of the village. Opening of the 2010-2011 School Year
1 September 2010
September 1 marks the opening of the School Year in Israel, and this is so also for the Oasis of Peace School. Although the date is regular, every year this seems a small miracle.

Annual Summer Camp for Palestinian Children

The annual summer camp for Palestinian children ended successfully; a significant event, with 40 children mostly from al-Duheisheh Refugee Camp.

English Day at the Primary School

The pupils from 2nd to 5th grade were involved in a day of activities all dedicated to practising the English language. Stage plays, power-point presentations, short films and table games: all the children from 3rd to 5th grade prepared something in English to share with the others. The Department of State’s Senior Policy Advisor on Global Women’s Affairs Diane Kelly presented the “Women of Courage” certificate to Deputy Director of Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam’s School for Peace Nava Sonnenschein in a moving ceremony in the mixed Arab-Jewish village.
