Wahat al-Salam – Neve Shalom (pronounced “waaḥat’ as-salaam/nevei shalom”) is a village of Palestinian and Jewish citizens of Israel dedicated to building justice, peace and equality in the country and the region.
Situated equidistant from Jerusalem and Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Wahat al-Salam / Neve Shalom (WAS-NS) was established in 1970 by Fr. Bruno Hussar on land of the Latrun Monastery. It is a model of equality, mutual respect and partnership that challenges existing patterns of racism and discrimination as well as the continued conflict. The community has established educational institutions based on its ideals and conducts activities focused on social and political change. Many of the village members work in peace, justice and reconciliation projects. As of, 2023, it has a population of 70+ families and will grow to 150 families.

Annual General Meeting of Friends Associations

This year’s annual general meeting, to which representatives are invited from support groups around the world, got off to a great start with an evening reception at the swimming pool. At the event we welcomed old and new friends, and honored our oldest friend of all, J. Zel Lurie, who will be 100 this year. Mother’s Day Event

An evening in honour of Mother’s Day was organized on March 21 by WASNS member Mai Shbeta. The evening featured music, a reading of the monologue “Flowers are not enough” by (WASNS member and dramatist) Hawla Dibsi, a reading from the Vagina Monologues of Eve Ensler with the participation of veteran Israeli entertainers Rivka Michaeli and Tiki Dayan. The Pluralistic Spiritual Center frequently hosts meetings of the Sulha Organization (http://sulha.com), which PSC director Dafna Karta Schwartz has also been involved. On Thursday March 11, one such meeting brought together some 60 young Jews and Arabs from Israel and Palestine in a special gathering that opened the hearts and minds of the participants. Visit by Dutch Diplomats based in Ramallah
