"Doumia-Sakinah", or The Pluralistic Spiritual Centre, provides a framework for spiritual reflection on issues at the core of the middle east conflict and the search for its resolution. The PSCC’s halls are available for use by other groups and organizations

Introduction

The Wahat al-Salam Pluralistic Spiritual Centre (PSCC) is one of the Village’s educational institutions. It is a Palestinian-Israeli cultural institution that hosts book launches, film screenings, spiritual and cultural activities and is a meeting place for learning, observing and searching for peace within and between us. This is based on a belief in the values of equality, justice and reconciliation. Its activities draw inspiration from the spiritual sources and heritage of both peoples and those of others, and focus on inter-religious or inter-cultural open discussion.

The PSCC and the House of Silence (Beit Ha-Doumia/Beit As-Sakinah) were founded by Anne Le Meignen and Bruno Hussar, founders of the village of Wahat al Salam - Neve Shalom.

The source of the name doumia (in Hebrew) is in the biblical verse: "To You, Lord, silence [doumia] shall be as praise" (Psalms 2: 2).

The source of the name sakinah (in Arabic) is a verse in the Quran: "He... “sends sent down tranquillity [sakinah] into the hearts of the believers that they will add faith unto their faith.” (Qur’an, 48,4).

The PSCC is dedicated to the memory of the conceiver and founder of the village, Bruno Hussar, and to his legacy, as expressed in his spiritual “last will and testament”:

"Faith in the final victory of love over enmity ... is the is the truest and most profound goal of Wahat al-Salam -Neve Shalom." A righteous man has said: "In a place where there is no love, sow love and reap love. It may be that the one who sows love will not himself reap it, but only another who comes after him. Yet without any doubt, every seed of true love will yield the fruit of love - either today or tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.” And this is the true goal of Wahat al-Salam - Neve Shalom: to keep alive hope and to plant a lot of love in the dry land of our country. The harvest will eventually come.

The Center’s activities are intended for community members and the public at large. They are publicized on this site, on Facebook, via a WhatsApp group and via an e-mail distribution list. To join the WhatsApp group or mailing list, please contact the Centre’s coordinator, Einat, according to the details below.

The PSCC facilities

The Spiritual Centre and the corner of silence (Doumia - Sakinah), are located at the edge of the village, bordered by woods, nestled among greenery, and overlooking a magnificent view of the Latrun Valley.

There are two buildings:

One is the House of Silence (Beit haDoumia – Beit as-Sakinah), a round structure in which one can sit for quiet observation or prayer. The second is the Pluralistic Spiritual Centre building, inaugurated in May 2000. This building is intended for activities. It includes two large halls with a central courtyard. The halls are available for rental by other organizations or individuals for activities that are in keeping with the spirit of the place.

The Garden of Rescuers

In the grounds of the Spiritual Centre is The Garden of Rescuers, which has been established to honor groups or individuals who have acted to save others in times of hardship. An annual award ceremony takes place there, close to the date of the European Day of the Righteous (March 6).
